GC YOUTH BUREAUS AFTER 3 PROGRAM SUMMER APPLICATIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED
The Long Island Community Foundation Assists Glen Cove Youth Bureau’s After 3 Program
Summer Applications Now Being Accepted
May 22, 2017…Through the support of The Long Island Community Foundation and the City of Glen Cove, the children of the Glen Cove Youth Bureau`s After 3 Program are provided with unique educational opportunities through their Cradle of Aviation science programs. Students have learned about solar energy, sustainability, space travel and expanded their technology skills by creating special apps for the Youth Bureau. With additional funding provided by Irina Shusko and the United World Foundation, students have also participated in field trips to the Museum to expand their classroom learnings.
The creative hands-on lessons offered through this special program are giving first graders the chance to create The Milky Way using construction paper and cotton balls, handmade helicopters out of rubber bands and pieces of wood, and small parachutes made with coffee filters and markers. And the highlight for many students this semester was creating robot hands with wooden sticks, foam hands, string and tape. For middle school aged youngsters, they created wobble robots, Spirographs, model rollercoasters and their own 1900’s mine using supplies like Styrofoam tubes, plastic cups, black electrical tape, markers, clothes pins, metal tins and pencils.
For parents interested in maintaining their child’s passion for learning this summer, the Glen Cove Youth Bureau is currently accepting applications for their summer camp program. Information is available at all Glen Cove Schools as well as at the GCA3 office located at 128b Glen Street. For more information please call the Glen Cove After 3 office at (516) 671-4600. Glen Cove After 3 is a School Aged Child Care (SACC) New York State Licensed program.
Funded by the City of Glen Cove, Nassau County Youth Board, New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Glen Cove Community Development Agency Community Development Block Grant, Long Island Community Foundation, Legislative Support, and
