DINA EPSTEIN - Candidate for Sea Cliff Village Trustee
I have had the honor of serving as Trustee for the past two years. However, I have been volunteering on behalf of Sea Cliff for the past sixteen years in roles that range from Zoning Board Chair to Staff Appreciation Luncheon Chair. In that time I have learned a lot about how our Village is run, have worked with extraordinary people and, I believe, have accomplished much for Sea Cliff. I am running for a second term as Trustee because there is still more that I can do.
I work with a Board of smart, talented and dedicated people who have toiled to keep taxes flat, services excellent and to make Sea Cliff a vibrant, safe, charming place to live. Recently we worked to pass legislation that granted a Veterans Exemption to those in our Village who have so bravely served their country. We have overseen major improvements to the Village’s historic buildings including Village Hall, the Adult Library and, soon, the Firehouse. I am happy to let our taxpayers know that much of the work to preserve these historic buildings has been paid for through grants. I am privileged to work with volunteer groups that make Sea Cliff special. I have been part of the Butterfly Committee which planned, raised money for and built the Butterfly Garden at the Marden triangle. We are currently working to expand the Garden. With the Environmental Conservation Commission, I am working on initiatives that will not only save taxpayers money, but will also improve the environment. We are working to increase recycling and encourage composting. I also work with the dedicated volunteers of the Landmark Preservation Commission, the Tree Commission and the North Shore Coalition Against Substance Abuse. We will certainly face challenges in the coming years. Traffic congestion, keeping our streets safe, ensuring water quality, and the protection of our beach front are some of these issues. I know that with input from our residents we will be able to find intelligent and creative resolutions to these issues. I have volunteered in Sea Cliff with many organizations and in a variety of roles. I was on the Zoning Board of Appeals from 2001-2005 and 2008-2013, then became the first female Chair of the ZBA serving from 2013-2015. I served as co-chair of the Staff Appreciation Luncheon at the Sea Cliff School until the youngest of my three children moved on. I have volunteered as an assistant to the mock trial teams for both the Sea Cliff Elementary and North Shore Middle School teams. I have co-chaired the Hanukkah Happening children’s party for the past two years. I served as baking committee coordinator at the Middle School and volunteered with a local Girl Scout troop. I was raised in Commack and earned a B.A. from The University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law. I have been an attorney for 29 years, and am a former adjunct professor. I love living here with my husband and children. We have an eclectic, antique, artistic, vibrant and creative community. The people who care so much about Sea Cliff are what make it such an extraordinary place to live. I appreciate all of the volunteers and how much they do to make Sea Cliff what it is. I ask for your vote because I would like the opportunity to continue working to preserve, perhaps even improve, all of the charms of this unique Village we call home. BACK TO WEEKLY |
