NOVEMBER SHOWCASE OF THE ARTS FEATURES LOCAL ARTIST/COMPOSER BORIS MOURASHKIN AND SINGER/SONGWRITER KEN KRUMENACKER
This past Wednesday evening, the K. DiResta Collective on Sea Cliff Avenue hosted its November Showcase of the Arts. The event featured Sea Cliff artist and composer Boris Mourashkin, and local singer/guitarist and songwriter Ken Krumenacker.
Mr. Krumenacker kicked off the event with an original song, and then the Russian-born Mr. Mourashkin took the stage and introduced the audience to his work with a half hour long video highlighting his Bio-Energetic Psychotropic music and his efforts as a Sound and Art Therapist treating autistic children. Following the video, Mr. Mourashkin took questions from the audience concerning his sound and art therapy, and his artwork that was displayed throughout the DiResta studio. Bio-Energetic Psychotropic music combines rhythms, tones, and vibrations to create a natural and spiritual listening experience. With regard to his art, Mr. Mourashkin employs a mixed-layering technique using a variety of media including “oil/pastel/watercolor/ink/snow/sky/concrete materials/ and anything natural,” that, like his music, he says, is “highly organic and profoundly spiritual.” Following the discussion with Mr. Borashkin, Mr. Krumenacker again took the stage to perform his original, joyful and upbeat folk style songs. Many know the songwriter from his years as a mail carrier in Sea Cliff Village, but the arts, he says, were always his first love. Now retired, he devotes himself full-time to his music. As one of the Barbara Garriel trio, he has played at many venues around the Island, including the former Roots restaurant. As a soloist, he loves to perform for children's groups. Mr. Bourashkin’s art will be on display at the K. DiResta Collective through the end of November. |
