GLEN HEAD GLENWOOD BUSINESS ASSOCIATION INSTALLS NEW BOARD AT ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY
December 17, 2016 -- Members, families and friends of the Glen Head Glenwood Business Association filled the upstairs meeting hall of the Glenwood American Legion Post on Glen Head Road for the group's annual Holiday party on Wednesday evening. The organization's new Executive Board was officially installed with a swearing in ceremony presided over by Scott Whitting.
Long time member Deborah Gordon of Extravegant Travel, who had previously held the post of Corresponding Secretary, assumed the Presidency, the first woman in the group's history to hold the post. Brookwood Contracting owner Tucker Tongue, who had served as President more than ten times since 1980, was awarded with a plaque of distinction for his dedication and hard work on behalf of the organizaition. "Thank you so much for caring and keeping us going," said Ms. Gordon as she presented the plaque to Mr. Tongue. Maria Greco, daughter of Michael Greco who owns Glen Head Motors, was awarded "Volunteer of the Year," and Betsy Gibbs of Worth Repeating was given the "Member of the Year" Award. Brookville Deli and Catering prepared the excellent buffet meal, and local businesses donated baskets and services as door prizes. The Glen Head Glenwood Business Association is made up more than 130 local businesses and organizations. The group seeks to enhance the health and profitability of local business by helping to promote, develop, and protect the overall business interest of the area and its economic region. In addition, the group “strives to actively promote the civic interests, the general welfare and prosperity of the Greater Glen Head/Glenwood Area.” In the furtherance of these goals residents and local proprietors are encouraged to shop and eat local. Through its monthy meetings the Association provides opportunities for local businessmen and women to network and attend educational workshops and presentations. In addition to its community beautification efforts the Business association also sponsor an “Adopt-a-Flag” program and a Farmers Market and Small Business Showcase each fall in the center of Glen Head.
