CELEBRATE AUTUMN'S ARRIVAL AT THE GLEN HEAD FARMERS MARKET AND LOCAL BUSINESS SHOWCASE ON SEPTEMBER 21
The Glen Head Glenwood Business Association along with the First National Bank of Long Island will sponsor a Farmer's Market and Local Business Showcase that will take place on Sunday September 21, 2014 from 10 am to 3 pm in the bank parking lot at the corner of Roosevelt Street and Glen Head Road in the center of Glen Head. This will truly be a shop local event with the Rottkamp family of Old Brookville, who have for more than 60 years been growing potatoes, tomatoes, corn, leafy greens and a rich variety of other vegetables on their McCoun's Lane farm, selling their fresh produce, and Business Association members offering their wares for sale as well as information about the services and goods they provide. The market will no doubt be a great opportunity for many in the community to be introduced to the local shop owners and proprietors whose storefronts they may pass everyday, but have never ventured inside to see the wide assortment of goods and services that are offered right in their midst. Tucker Tongue, President of GHGWBA, said the showcase will "bring the local community and local businesses closer together." “Whether it’s a local coffee shop, gift shop, hardware store, pharmacy, restaurant, farm or a service-oriented business, we will showcase our wonderful local business community," said Deborah Orgel-Gordon, a GHGWBA officer. “When you shop locally, your money is pumped back into the local economy creating more tax revenue, and a thriving business district helps boost residential property values. Shopping locally also creates local jobs. And, many of our local businesses give back to the community through donations to our schools and civic organizations.” This is the first year that the event is being held, and one that the GHGWBA is looking forward to sponsoring annually. The rain date is the following Sunday. The Glen Head Glenwood Business Association has been actively engaged in promoting local business and supporting the North Shore Community for over 40 years and currently has over 90 members.
