GOLFING FOR THE GOOD OF THE VILLAGE
September 26, 2015 -- With wedges, eight irons and even the occasional long iron in hand, scores of golfers, both low handicappers and hackers, looped Sea Cliff Village this past Saturday in the Good of the Village Association's Golfing Around Sea Cliff fundraiser. Using True-Flight practice golf balls, that have the feel but lack the flight of a Titleist or Pinnacle, the foursomes made their way from park to park and through residents' yards, as they navigated the 24-hole course. Despite the occasional shank, no damage was reported. After a hiatus of a few years, the tournament, the brain child of Sea Cliff resident Mike Lennon, was revived this year, and replaced GVA's annual antique sale as this fall's fundraiser. As they completed their rounds, the golfers were greeted at the Village Green with a fine spread of sandwiches and pizza. John Canning emcee'd the awards ceremony and was joined by resident Jim Foote, as Theodore Roosevelt, for some inspirational words, and Anna Jannett, who presented each of the winners with a trophy. The winners of green jackets were Men’s Master John Jenney and Women’s Master, Kate Murphy. Additionally, Dan McDermott was the Men’s Runner-up; Jill Salditt the Women’s Runner-up; Nick Virgilio the Twelve Hole Lowest Score; Susan O'Brien, the Women's Twelve Hole lowest Score. Hole in Ones were scored by Jonathan Waechter, Susan O’Brien and James Carmadella. BACK TO WEEKLY |
