Updated July 3, 2015 -- With an historical re-enactment, a band concert and a fireworks show, there's no shortage of ways to observe Independence Day on Saturday in the North Shore area.
At 10 a.m. the Sea Cliff Civic Association invites you to attend a gala celebration of America’s Declaration of Independence on the John Burns Village Green, in front of the adult library. The program will include ringing the village bell, the presentation of Colors led by fife and drum, a short play about the signers of the Declaration, refreshments and much more. The highlight of the morning’s event will be a reading of the full Declaration of Independence by Sea Cliff villagers, as was done on village greens and in town squares across the newly independent 13 states in early July 1776.
Later that day, at 7:30 pm, the Northwinds Symphonic Band will perform a concert at Glen Cove's Morgan Memorial Park, followed by a fireworks show sponsored by Grucci at 9 pm - the Sea Cliff shoreline offering a perfect vantage point for viewing.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY USA!
July 2, 2015 -- In celebration of the 239th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Sea Cliff Children's Library hosted a birthday bash for our nation on Thursday evening. The annual event, organized by Ann and Dan DiPietro, attracted dozens of children, their parents, and other residents, who, led by local musician/parents Joe Hughes and Roger Friedman, sang, and clapped to patriotic tunes and American standards such as You're a Grand Ol' Flag, Yankee Doodle, This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land, and the Star Spangled Banner. The birthday party concluded in traditional American fashion with the presentation of candlelit cup cakes and an enthusiastic singing of "Happy Birthday." (pictures above)
