IN SUPPORT OF ROBERT MAZZELLA FOR NORTH SHORE SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEEReceived from Lisa and James Coppola, Glen Head
May 12, 2014 To the Editor: As the school board election and budget vote approaches, I wish to highlight why we support the candidacy of Mr. Robert Mazzella. We have lived in the district for 15 years and have a 3rd grader in the school system. Our education system is going through a period of great change with the conversion to the common core. The challenges ahead for our system and are children are formidable. These changes coupled with the decommissioning of the power plant and the reduction of future tax revenue generated by that facility will likely place significant financial constraints on the residents of the North Shore School District. As a result, our school district will require new approaches and difficult decisions in the future. A candidate such as Mr. Mazzella brings a strong financial and budgeting background while having a family background guided by a belief in the importance of a strong education system. He has children attending the North Shore Schools which allows him to bring a proper balance to his decision making abilities weighing fiscal responsibility versus necessary school services. He will be open to new approaches and alternatives all with the goal of keeping our school system at the forefront in education. I also think an important issue for any candidate should be the level of interest they have placed in the Board of Education’s work over the years. Mr. Mazzella is a frequent attendee of the meetings and open forums. He has demonstrated his interest and commitment to the process over the years. We are fortunate that he is willing to expand his participation and seek board election. He would be a wonderful addition to the board and a great resource for all the members of the community. I urge you to give Mr. Mazzella your support for our children and community’s sake. Regards, Lisa & James Coppola |
