NANCY YOSHII MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE AT THE SEA CLIFF LIBRARY
The Sea Cliff Arts Council hosted an Artist's reception at the Sea Cliff Library for exhibition featuring Mixed Media Collage by Nancy Yoshii. The abstract, figurative, and quilterly works, will be on view at Sea Cliff Village Library at 300 Sea Cliff Avenue through April 30th, 2015.
Nancy Yoshii spent thirty years as a ceramic artist, working the clay in a tightly controlled way, making subtly glazed classic forms. So she has found it exhilarating and liberating to jump into the world of exploding color, pattern, and composition that, for her, is collage. Nancy’s work, both abstract and figurative, is composed of many materials: handmade and commercial papers, fabrics, organic and inorganic found objects, photos, magazines, parts of her own monoprints and paintings…whatever works is invited into the composition. Her techniques include gluing, sewing, cutting, weaving, quilting, and digital photography, the latter often pushed to abstract extremes. Having lived many years in Japan, she finds that aesthetic figures strongly in much that she does. Nancy also brings to her work the fruits of 35 years of nurturing and artistic generosity in many media from her fellow artists in the Long Island Craft Guild, for which she is grateful.
