McGILLOWAY AND MAYNARD ELECTED VILLAGE TRUSTEESMarch 20, 2016 -- In the Sea Cliff Village Board election held on Tuesday March 15.Trustee Kevin McGilloway was elected to his second two-year term and Trustee Robin Maynard to her first, after having been appointed to her post last month. Mr. McGilloway received 153 votes and Ms. Maynard 147, while write-ins received 6. With no way for local elections officials to open the new voting machines that swallow the scan sheet ballots, those names were unknown.
“A fantastic result for two fine and competent individuals who will enhance our village government as well as our community at large,” commented Village Deputy Mayor Ed Lieberman. Both Mr. McGilloway and Ms. Maynard offered their thanks to the relatively large numbers of residents who turned out to vote in an uncontested election. “It shows great community spirit,” said Mr. McGilloway. “I’m pleasantly surprised at the number of people who came out,” said Dan Maddock, Chairman of the Sea Cliff Civic Progress Committee, which nominated both candidates. “ It’s more typical, he explained, for a village of this size to have only a few dozen voters come out when the outcome is a foregone conclusion. But, he continued, “Sea Cliff always has had good turn-out.” The two trustees will be sworn in to begin their two year terms at the April 4 Annual Organizational meeting. BACK TO WEEKLY |
