TWO SEA CLIFF EXHIBITS FEATURE WORKS OF LOCAL ARTISTS
August 4, 2014 -- On Sunday, the Sea Cliff Arts Council simultaneously held two separate opening receptions for exhibits at local venues - "Sea Cliff Landscapes" at the Library, and "A Glimpse at a Lifetime" at Daniel Gale/Sotheby's on Sea Cliff Avenue. Both showcased the artistic talent of local residents.
Sea Cliff Landscapes features the art of twenty Sea Cliff Artists, done in a variety of styles and media that depict scenes of Sea Cliff or places nearby, whether it is a photograph of autumn foliage shot through the windshield of a car blurring the image as one would expect to see in a watercolor, a watercolor of a bench overlooking Hempstead Harbor at Tappen Beach, or an oil painting of the Glenwood Landing Power Plant - in its full glorious industrial geometric form prior to the demolition that has been ongoing there for the past year. Artists featured in the exhibit include John Murello, Julia Cagney, Judy Martialay, Elaine Walden, James Foote, Marylee Kelly. Miranda Best, Kay Vickers, Susan Tiffen, Sharon Padua Bogolubov, Priscilla Waltz, Jean Davis, Katie Seiden, Carolyn Quenon, Heidi Hunt, Douglas Barnaby, Patricia Kaegi Weiss, Kathleen DiResta, and Stephen Csoka. A half block away on Sea Cliff Avenue, Daniel Gale/Sotheby's hosted a reception for "A Glimpse at a Lifetime" - a memorial retrospective of the art of long-time Sea Cliff resident Margaret Ferrarie Hershenhart who passed away in September 2013. The exhibit features many examples of Ms. Hershenhart's works, including still life, landscape, figure and abstract pieces.
