LET IT SNOW ! WEATHER COOPERATES FOR SEA CLIFF
VILLAGE CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING
|
December 8, 2013 -- Sea Cliff was transformed into a winter wonderland as the skies opened and snow began to fall just as the Christmas Tree Lighting festivities commenced at the John Burns Village Green this Sunday evening. Local guitarist and songstress Kris Rice greeted residents with the classic “Let it Snow”, and de facto village emcee John Canning officially kicked the festivities off with an introduction and an a cappella version of “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of Year.” The crowd steadily grew warmer and larger as more carols were sung, and complimentary hot apple cider and saki were generously served by Musu. Soon after, Sea Cliff resident Susan Giordano sang “O Holy Night” and Sea Cliff Methodist Church Pastor Curtlin Watkins read the Christmas Story from the Gospel of Luke. Then, as the multicolored lights on the three story spruce in front of the library steps were lit, the crowd broke into a rousing rendition of O Tannenbaum. Santa’s sleigh was soon spotted somewhere near Great Neck, and the Christmas season revelers steered the jolly elf toward the Village Green with an enthusiastic version of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. After Mr. and Mrs. Claus greeted children, distributed candy canes, and took orders, many retired to the basement of Village Hall where they enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies.
