July 1, 2017 -- This past Friday, a Glen Cove High School student gave the seniors at the Mutual Concerns lunch program a wonderful surprise. Michele D’Ambrosio, a 14 year-old high school student, who just finished her freshman year, has been a volunteer at Mutual Concerns since she was in elementary school. She helped organize the emergency food pantry and helped out at the annual Sea Cliff Holiday House Tour fundraiser. Michele, who plays the alto saxophone, thought it would be a good idea to perform for the seniors. The audience, of about 50 people, was overjoyed to hear three beautiful selections. They were also grateful that such a young person gave of her time to brighten their day. Michele started playing the saxophone about 3 years ago. Helen Bauer, director of the Northwinds Symphonic Band, heard Michele play and was so impressed with her, that she has been coaching her ever since. Michele has a broad range of musical styles from classical to contemporary. Recently she has participated in the Tiles Festival Band at the 2017 LIU Post Band Festival. She was selected based on her fine musicianship skills. This summer, Michele is continuing her passion for music by attending USDAN Camp for the Arts. BACK TO WEEKLY |
