Plainview, NY - Representatives from the Nassau and Suffolk County Track Coaches Associations, NSCHSSA, and USATF Long Island have come together to select the All Long Island Athletes for the indoor track and field season. Performances throughout the season were analyzed, debated, and discussed with an emphasis placed on achievements from championship meets (County/Intersectional, State, Nationals) and the Long Island Elite Invitational.
Three athletes were selected for each individual running and field event to comprise 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team All Long Island. Athletes who could have qualified for selections in multiple events were assigned one selection in their most outstanding event. The committee also has awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd All Long Island selections in the 4x200, 4x400, 4x800, sprint medley, and distance medley relays. The 2015-2016 indoor track and field season was a highly successful one for the Long Island track and field community, highlighted with the committee’s selection of two most outstanding athletes in Infinite Tucker (Huntington HS) and Diana Vizza (North Shore HS). Infinite Tucker showcased incredible range throughout the season proving himself to be a threat in all events from the 55 to 600 meters as well as in the field. On March 5th at the New York State Championships he captured state championships in the 55HH (7.38) and as a member of Huntington’s 4x400 (3:24.02). He also placed 2nd in the state championship long jump competition with an incredible leap of 23-1 ¾. His season culminated in a National Championship and Long Island record in the 4x400 in a time of 3:16.09. Diana Vizza likewise had a national presence in the distance events throughout the course of the season. Coming off an individual state championship during the cross-country season, Vizza added another state title to her resume with a victory in the 1500 (4:31.67) at the New York State Championships. She was then awarded with All American honors with her 4th place finish in the 3200 (10:19.91) at the New Balance National Championships. Finally, during the same weekend, she was also able to establish a new New York State record in the 5000 of 16:42.84 finishing 7th. The Long Island Track and Field Coaches Association would like to congratulate all of these outstanding athletes on a memorable and successful indoor track and field campaign. Future All Long Island selections for cross-country and track and field will be made annually after the conclusion of each season.
