JOIN PULITZER JOURNALIST AT CEDARMERE FUNDRAISING BRUNCH
On Sunday, May 22, Pulitzer Prize-winning environmental journalist Dan Fagin will speak at the Annual Friends of Cedarmere Fundraising Brunch, held at the Sea Cliff Yacht Club, beginning at 12 noon.
Awarded the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction, Dan Fagin’s latest book, Toms River: A Story of Science and Salvation, was described by The New York Times as “a new classic in science reporting.” A Times bestseller, Toms River also won the New York Public Library’s Helen Bernstein Book Award for Excellence in Journalism, the National Academy of Sciences’ Communication Award and the Society of Environmental Journalists’ Rachel Carson Book Award. Toms River was included in several lists of the best books of the year, including by NPR, which described Toms River as a “gripping, page-turning environmental thriller,” and by Kirkus Reviews, which called it “fascinating” and “hard-hitting.” The Friends are especially pleased to have Mr. Fagin, professor of journalism at NYU, speak on environmental concerns that are so much a part of Cedarmere’s ongoing restorations, which include maintaining a one-of-a-kind historic landscape featuring a serene freshwater pond situated in very close proximity to the salt-water ecology of Hempstead Harbor. Everyone who visits Cedarmere knows that it is a jewel in our community-- a model of sustainable waterfront development--offering a living, centuries-old example of strong environmental stewardship, as first practiced in our area by illustrious poet and journalist William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878). Cedarmere greatly relies on the support of its active, enthusiastic, and faithful Friends. Current Members are offered the Annual Brunch at $46, while non-Members will enjoy the event for $56; both are invited to renew their Membership or to become Members for $76, inclusive of this springtime, waterside Brunch—a 20% savings! Guests at the Yacht Club will enjoy a specially prepared buffet, with made to order omelets, tempting entrees, generous sides, fresh fruit, rolls, juice, dessert and coffee or tea, as well as a complimentary bar drink. Come hear a marvelous speaker, feast yourself amply, and relax in the good company of Friends, long-standing and new. Afterwards, rest assured of what we always wish: “See you at Cedarmere!” Advanced ticket purchase at www.friendsofcedarmere.org Call / write 516-763-7190 / [email protected] Sea Cliff Yacht Club is at 42 The Boulevard, Sea Cliff, NY |
