VIKING EXPLORERS FROM NORTH SHORE MIDDLE SCHOOL GO TO TAPPEN BEACH FOR THEIR UNDERWATER ROBOTICS EXPEDITION
By Shelly Newman On September 22nd, Mr. Brian Lang and Mr. Keith Slack took the Viking Explorers Program on their first underwater robotics expedition to Tappen Beach in Sea Cliff. The North Shore Middle School students worked in teams, rotating through four different activity stations. They searched for, collected, and identified various marine species using wading boots, nets, seines, and fishing poles. In addition, the Viking Explorers piloted the underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) while troubleshooting robotic interface issues. They researched the formation of beaches like Tappan and its local inhabitants in order to predict which species would be in our environment, and digitally documented the teams' progress. Stay tuned for exciting more adventures and expeditions of the Viking Explorers!
